Peer Support Groups

Aberdeenshire Community Recovery are committed to peer-led, grass roots support from within the local Recovery Community for those who are on the road to recovery from Substance Use issues.

According to Prof. David Best, “Effective packages of recovery support rest on effective and timely access to recovery-compatible housing, to training, education and employment support and to peer-based recovery support systems.”

We cherish and nurture the compassion, knowledge and skills of people with lived and living experience to support themselves and each other in their unique recovery journeys.

peer support is ‘a naturally occurring, mutually beneficial support process, where people who share a common experience meet as equals, sharing skills, strengths and hope, allowing people to learn ways of coping from each other. Formalised peer support begins when persons with lived experience, who have received specialized training, assume unique designated roles to support an individual’s expressed wishes’.
